It has proved effective in reducing and detecting crime. As a result of this people can now feel safer in their local communities.
The Home Office states CCTV surveillance is particularly valuable when used as part of a wider crime reduction strategy, strengthening partnership with the local police.
There are many ways in which the use of CCTV is effective.
Types of offences that CCTV monitor include:
These are some examples which can lead to arrests and subsequent prosecution
CCTV cameras are also being used to catch fly tippers and people dropping litter in the community. We will use the evidence gained to prosecute offenders.
We have a number of re-deployable CCTV cameras which can be directed to areas where anti-social behaviour or instances of crime are seen to be becoming a major issue.
Cameras are deployed through the Tasking and Co-ordinating group and through the local Streetsafe boards.
