Community-minded residents in East Durham are being urged to step out and make a difference.
Accent North East is looking for people living in Horden and Easington Colliery to take part in a new estate walkabout programme.
The initiative will give volunteers the chance to raise awareness of problems in their neighbourhood as well as learning how they can help tackle issues themselves.
Mark Brown, Accent North East’s Customer Services Manager, said: “Walkabouts have proved extremely popular in other areas where participants have helped us make genuine improvements to their communities.
“We’re hoping the people of Easington and Horden will prove just as keen to do their bit.”
Volunteers are asked to accompany staff from the housing provider on monthly walkabouts to help identify problems such as graffiti, litter and flytipping, which accent will deal with if appropriate.
Participants are also given information about who to contact about specific problems and what they can expect to be done by the relevant organisation to solve them.
Anyone who would like to take part in the monthly walkabout programme can call Mark on 0845 678 0571.
