Creative adults can learn new skills when a free arts course starts next week.
‘Artworks’ is a pilot project offering people aged 16 and over living in East Durham the chance to improve their drawing and painting skills with the help of professional artists.
Participants can also try out other art forms such as sculpture, ceramics and stained glass making.
The project will be held at Healthworks, Seaside Lane, Easington Colliery, every Wednesday from 1pm to 4pm, starting January 9.
Colin Robson, District of Easington Council’s Art Officer, said: “The aim of Artworks is to improve the health and emotional well-being of people living in District of Easington.
“There is a lot of evidence to support the belief that being creative and taking part in artistic past times is therapeutic and can help alleviate or prevent stress.
“All of us can be creative given the right kind of supportive environment and I hope this course will encourage more people to have a go. “
Artworks has been organised and funded by District of Easington Council and County Durham Primary Care Trust.
The course is free to attend and all materials will be provided. For further information contact Healthworks on (0191) 527 4157, or the Arts Development Unit on (0191) 527 0501.
